Modern Employment Dynamics: Insights from HR Vibes in Timișoara

On March 28, we gathered in Timișoara with both familiar faces and new acquaintances to explore the latest trends in the HR sector.

The Evolving Role of HR in Recruitment

The discussion commenced with Diana Năstase, HR Director at FLEX, who shared her insights on the evolving responsibilities of HR departments in recruitment. In a labor market increasingly challenged by talent shortages, Diana emphasized two critical areas: hard skills and soft skills. „While strong hard skills can secure you an interview, it’s the soft skills that ultimately determine if you’re the right fit,” she noted. She also highlighted key attributes sought by recruiters in 2019, including self-awareness, adaptability, leadership qualities, and the ability to navigate challenges.

Understanding the Modern Employee

Mirela Crețu, HR Manager at Kimball Electronics Romania, discussed the modern employee’s profile and the various factors that influence their integration into a company. She stressed the importance of clearly communicating responsibilities while also considering the individual’s personality, daily habits, values, professional history, and personal aspirations.

Data Management Trends in HR

Aurelian Chitez, Sales Director at Romanian Software, provided insights into data management within HR. He noted that in 2017, 57% of organizations stored their data in the cloud, with 73% planning to migrate their processes to the cloud within two years. Aurelian argued that automating workflows through such systems enhances team efficiency and productivity, reduces the risk of errors, and ensures compliance with evolving regulations through regular software updates.

Engagement Factors in Quick Service Industries

Next, we spoke with Ana Maria Butelanc, Talent Acquisition Manager for KFC, PIZZA HUT, and TACO BELL (Sphera Franchise Group), who addressed employee engagement in the Quick Service Restaurant and Home Delivery sectors. She highlighted motivational factors within organizations, such as effective communication, employee focus, diversity, inclusion, and talent support, alongside basic benefits like job security, non-monetary perks, a pleasant work environment, and work-life balance.

Promoting Physical Activity Among Employees

Andrei Crețu, Co-founder of 7Card, presented a case study on the sports activities of Timișoara residents within the 7Card network. „2018 marked the peak of physical activity among our members, who collectively logged 1,863,000 hours of exercise-equivalent to 77,525 days or 213 years-burning a staggering 1 billion calories.” The top industries with the highest participation included Automotive, Software Services, Telecommunications, and Outsourcing.

Understanding Employee Personality Through Facial Analysis

Radu Chiriac, Foundation Teacher at AL FERASA INTERNATIONAL, introduced an intriguing approach to identifying potential employees’ personalities based on their facial features. He explained that Al Ferasa involves keen observation and deep understanding. Radu outlined the three main components of the face: the rational aspect above the eyebrows, the practical aspect between the eyebrows and the upper lip, and the emotional aspect from the upper lip to the chin. He emphasized that understanding these elements can enhance interpersonal communication and boost self-confidence in both professional and personal settings.

Mentorship Programs in Recruitment

In the second session, Gabriel Racz, HR & Controlling Manager at MEWI, shared his experiences with implementing a recruitment program aimed at training students from scratch through mentorship. The challenge was to prepare them to manage a store in Bucharest within a year. „Out of 4,529 applications, we successfully hired two highly motivated individuals who quickly rose to regional leadership positions within two years, eager to develop others,” he recounted.

Growth in Employee Benefits Sector

Mihai Nedelcu, Regional Manager at Benefitonline.ro, discussed the significant growth in employee benefits in 2018. „Our platform operates like an online store, providing over 116,000 users access to a wide range of benefits. Currently, we have more than 250 satisfied companies, 1,800 suppliers, and over 3,000 unique benefits. Notably, call centers, BPOs, IT firms, and service providers offer the most benefits, with company budgets for these perks increasing by 150% from 2017 to 2018, reaching 114 million RON.”

Embracing Change in Employer Branding

„Every small, positive action we take can create a significant impact,” stated Iulia Fuiorea, Global HR Manager at EVERSEEN LIMITED. She discussed the importance of courage and the right mindset during pivotal moments for a company. Anca Păun, Talent Acquisition & Employer Branding Manager for British American Tobacco, joined the conversation to explore the digital aspects of employer branding. Anca noted that while Facebook remains a key platform, engagement rates are declining, and video content is outperforming static images. For optimal engagement, she recommended consistent posting-ideally five times a day-and highlighted the rising trend of audio content, suggesting that podcasts are the next frontier for organizations and brands.

Adapting to the Needs of Generation Z

Finally, Tim Ackermann, Global Head of Talent Acquisition & Experience, discussed the impact of digitalization on Generation Z, including shifts in purpose and learning. „Learning behaviors have changed dramatically, with a focus on digital information consumption and autonomy, favoring informal, socially-oriented learning models,” he explained. Tim emphasized the importance of three motivational factors: mastery, autonomy, and purpose, advocating for hiring individuals whose values align with the organization’s mission.
