Promoting Bilateral Trade: A Meeting Between Romanian and Slovenian Officials

On Monday, Costică Mustaţă, the President of the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB), along with Secretary General Sorin Dimitriu, engaged in discussions with Lea Stancic, the newly appointed Ambassador of Slovenia to Romania. This meeting highlighted the importance of establishing new cooperation agreements with similar institutions in Slovenia to enhance bilateral relations.

Exploring Collaborative Opportunities

As stated in a press release from CCIB shared with AGERPRES, Mustaţă emphasized the tangible opportunities for collaboration between businesses in Romania and Slovenia, given the complementary nature of their economies.

„It is essential that we formalize new cooperation agreements with Slovenian organizations to lay the groundwork for events that will benefit both business communities and foster bilateral cooperation,” Mustaţă remarked.

Strengths of the Romanian Market

The CCIB President also pointed out the high quality of Romanian offerings in sectors such as machinery manufacturing, energy, industrial equipment, and information technology. He further noted the potential within the tourism and educational sectors.

Educational and Research Collaboration

Addressing the educational aspect, Sorin Dimitriu highlighted Romania’s openness to not only student and faculty exchanges but also collaborative research projects.

Slovenia’s Commitment to Partnership

Ambassador Stancic expressed Slovenia’s willingness to collaborate with the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry. „We share common visions regarding the future of the European Union and our respective countries,” she commented.

Future Initiatives and Sectoral Meetings

The Slovenian Ambassador underscored her country’s readiness to work with CCIB, including facilitating a continuous exchange of business information for the benefit of both nations. She also suggested that, in addition to revitalizing cooperation between the chambers of commerce, the next step could involve organizing sector-specific meetings focused on information technology, green technologies, and waste recycling, emphasizing strong business collaboration.

Current Trade Statistics

As of August 31, 2019, the total value of trade between Romania and Slovenia reached €792 million in the first eight months of the year, marking an 18.5% increase compared to the same period in 2018. This included exports worth €314 million (up 30.3%) and imports totaling €478 million (up 18.5%), resulting in a trade balance of €164 million in favor of Slovenia, according to CCIB.

If the current pace of bilateral trade continues, 2019 is projected to set a record for both total trade volume and its components, exports and imports, as noted by the source.
