Franklin Templeton Reports Record High for Fondul Proprietatea Shares
Franklin Templeton Investment Management, the investment administrator for Fondul Proprietatea, announced on Sunday that the fund’s shares reached a new peak of 1.0150 lei on Thursday, May 30. This marks a significant increase of 15% from the closing price of 0.8830 lei per share recorded at the end of the previous year.
Significant Growth Over the Years
The current share price also represents a remarkable 138% rise compared to the 0.4270 lei closing price at the end of 2011, the year when the fund was first listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
„The price of 1 lei is the nominal value set by the Romanian government to compensate citizens who were unable to reclaim their lost properties during the communist regime, prior to the fund’s listing on the Bucharest Stock Exchange. We are thrilled to see that our years of hard work and commitment to creating value for our shareholders are reflected in the market price of the fund’s shares. Since September 2010, when Franklin Templeton began its management, we have distributed 1.1696 lei per share in dividends and capital returns, including dividends scheduled for early July,” stated Johan Meyer, CEO of Franklin Templeton Investments Limited and portfolio manager of Fondul Proprietatea.
Consistent Upward Trend
Since taking over the management of Fondul Proprietatea, the share price has consistently followed an upward trajectory, yielding a total return of over 165% since the fund’s listing on the Bucharest Stock Exchange in January 2011. Additionally, the total return on the net asset value (NAV) per share stands at 84% as of December 2010, according to the company.
„The discount between the fund’s share price and NAV has decreased from an average of approximately 55.7% in 2011 to a current average of 35.3% since the beginning of this year, reaching a record low of 20.08% in April 2015,” the statement noted.
Substantial Returns to Shareholders
Over the past eight years, the fund has returned a total of 11.95 billion lei (approximately 3.27 billion euros) to its shareholders. This includes a distribution of 1.1696 lei per share, amounting to around 6.32 billion lei solely in dividends and capital returns, as reported by the company.
„In addition, the fund has repurchased over 45.7% of its initial shares, equivalent to 6.29 billion shares, through 10 regular buyback programs and 5 offers, totaling a value of 5.63 billion lei,” the statement concluded.
