Simonis: Majoritatea parlamentarilor PSD susţin eliminarea sau diminuarea pensiilor speciale

PSD‘s Stance on Special Pensions: A Shift in Perspective
On Monday, Alfred Simonis, the leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) deputies, announced that a significant number of party members are in favor of either abolishing or reducing special pensions.
Importance of Parliamentary Discussions
Simonis emphasized the necessity of addressing critical societal issues within parliamentary groups, committees, and plenary sessions. „This topic has been thoroughly discussed; it is crucial for significant matters to be debated in various parliamentary settings. Today’s discussion was incredibly constructive, marking the beginning of a series of debates that will continue in committees tomorrow. We aim to establish a coherent stance on this issue shortly. I am confident that most of my colleagues in the combined PSD groups support the elimination of these special pensions,” he stated following a meeting of the PSD’s parliamentary groups.
Political Implications of Special Pensions
He further noted that the PSD has faced political repercussions regarding the topic of special pensions. „When people hear ‘special pensions,’ they often think of those received by parliamentarians. However, it’s important to clarify that only 1% of the budget allocated for special pensions is designated for parliamentarians, while the remaining 99% goes to other categories with significantly higher numbers and amounts. Thus, it is misleading to equate the entire budget for special pensions with those of parliamentarians. A serious discussion about the elimination, taxation, or reduction of these pensions is essential. We initiated this conversation last week in committees, and I am pleased to see that a majority of my colleagues are in favor of either eliminating or reducing special pensions,” Simonis added.
