Sinaia Invests in Eco-Friendly Public Transport
On Tuesday, the municipality of Sinaia announced the signing of a contract for the procurement of hybrid buses as part of the Eco-Bus project, funded by European Union resources.
Contract Signing and Project Goals
On November 26, Vlad Oprea, the mayor of Sinaia, and Valeriu Zaharia, Managing Director of Truck & Bus Mercedes-Benz Romania, formalized the agreement for the acquisition of 11 hybrid buses. This initiative is financed through the Eco-Bus project, which falls under the Operational Regional Program 2014-2020, specifically targeting priority axis 3. The primary aim of this investment is to lower carbon emissions in Sinaia while enhancing the quality and efficiency of public transportation.
Investment Details and Future Plans
The total investment for this project amounts to 16.11 million lei. Funding was approved in April of this year, and the program is set to replace the entire local public transport fleet with hybrid buses.
Enhancing Urban Mobility
„Urban mobility is crucial for improving the quality of life for residents of Sinaia, and an eco-friendly public transport system contributes to a healthier city. I am pleased that the tender was awarded to a globally recognized company known for its high-quality products,” stated Mayor Vlad Oprea.
Features of the New Buses
The new buses will be equipped with advanced features, including video surveillance, wireless internet, GPS systems, e-ticketing capabilities, and accessibility ramps for individuals with disabilities. Additionally, 18 information panels will be installed at bus stops to provide real-time updates on bus arrival times.
Expected Benefits and Future Developments
The supply contract aims to deliver and operationalize 11 hybrid buses (diesel-electric), comprising eight Citaro K buses measuring 9-11 meters with three doors, and three Citaro buses measuring 12-13 meters with two doors. The anticipated benefits include increased public transport capacity, expanded routes, and modernization of the transport system through the implementation of an intelligent traffic management system,” the Sinaia municipality further elaborated.
