Siegfried Mureșan Elected President of the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee
European Parliament member Siegfried Mureșan (PPE / PNL) has been appointed today as the president of the European Parliament Delegation to the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee.
A New Ally for Moldova
Mureșan emphasized that his election represents a significant opportunity for Moldova, stating, „With my new role, the Republic of Moldova gains a friend and ally in a crucial position within European institutions.” He underscored that his primary focus during his presidency will be to strengthen Moldova’s ties with the European Union.
„I will advocate to all decision-makers in the European Parliament, the European Commission, and EU member states that supporting Moldova is fundamentally in the EU’s best interest. Moldova is located right next to the EU, and by enhancing security, prosperity, and stability in Moldova, we directly contribute to the safety of the EU itself,” he added.
A Unique Opportunity for Reform
Mureșan highlighted the current unique moment in EU-Moldova relations, noting the election of a pro-European and reform-oriented government in Chișinău. He described Maia Sandu as the most pro-European and reform-minded prime minister Moldova has seen in the past three decades. „We are committed to assisting Moldova in implementing the reforms that this government aims to achieve,” he stated following the delegation’s vote.
Commitment to Engagement
„I will visit Moldova frequently and as often as necessary to communicate to citizens the benefits of closer ties with the European Union. I want both Romanians on the left and right banks of the Prut River to enjoy safety, stability, and a promising future in their homeland,” Mureșan concluded.
This commitment reflects a broader strategy to foster regional stability and prosperity, aligning with the EU’s goals of promoting democratic values and economic growth in neighboring countries.
