13,500 employees at the Dacia Automobile plant in Mioveni will be placed on technical unemployment until April 5 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The company expects to resume commercial operations swiftly following the end of the health crisis. At that time, appropriate measures will be implemented in collaboration with social partners, enabling the company to meet market demand, as stated in a press release to AGERPRES.

Company representatives have indicated that employees and business partners will be updated about Groupe Renault Romania‘s activities and the restart of production through the company’s communication channels.

Ion Iordache, vice president of the Dacia Automobile Union, mentioned on Wednesday that the management’s decision to halt operations at the Dacia plant was essential for safeguarding the health of its 14,000 employees.

„This morning (Wednesday, the 18th), a joint decision was made for Dacia to cease operations starting tomorrow at 7:00 AM until April 5. With 14,000 employees, this measure is crucial for protecting their health. Over 13,500 individuals will be on technical unemployment, which will be compensated according to the collective labor agreement at 85%. This is a very critical situation, and I hope we can navigate through it successfully,” stated the union leader from Dacia during an interview with Digi24.

Iordache emphasized that the health of employees is more important than production output.

„Production will be severely impacted, and all employees are aware of this, but their health is paramount. During this period, pest control measures will be undertaken, and conditions will be prepared to ensure a safe return for employees, preventing the spread of the virus. We are in constant discussions and will remain vigilant. This is a very serious moment. We had discussions yesterday with the government, requesting practical assistance for private enterprises. I am confident that we will receive support from the state; otherwise, many employees in surrounding businesses will lose their jobs,” Iordache added.
