Subsidies for Hemp Cultivators: A Positive Shift for Romanian Farmers
Romanian farmers engaged in hemp cultivation are set to receive encouraging news. The government has committed to increasing financial support for these agricultural producers. This announcement was made by the Minister of Agriculture, Petre Daea.
Increased Financial Support for Hemp Farmers
The focus of this initiative is on hemp growers, with the Minister confirming that larger subsidies will be made available. „I visited a processing facility in Dorohoi that specializes in cold extraction of hemp oil, which is both highly valuable and significant. The oil possesses exceptional qualities, and this crop has a favorable growth potential in Botoșani. Moving forward, we must enhance production, expand cultivation areas, and support farmers. My discussions with cultivators today provided a great opportunity to witness the integrated value chain, where seeds are transformed into oil and other products, thereby stimulating interest in hemp cultivation and ensuring more substantial subsidies for this crop,” Daea stated during his visit to Dorohoi.
Government Initiatives to Streamline Agricultural Support
The governing program of the PSD party aims to simplify legislation and practices related to agricultural support, establishing a single application process through one institution. This streamlined approach has resulted in over 860,000 beneficiaries managing more than 9.6 million hectares of land. To date, approximately 5 billion euros have been authorized for payment from European funds and the state budget for the 2017-2018 campaigns, covering over 100 types of direct subsidies and assistance programs, including food distribution in schools, restructuring in the wine sector, and support for agricultural product promotion.
Comparative Analysis of Subsidy Trends
When comparing the years 2017 and 2018, it is evident that the latter saw an increase in authorized subsidies. This shift has led to noticeable effects in the agricultural sector. Production costs have decreased by at least 10%, ensuring essential working capital for timely technological processes, which in turn has enhanced both the quantity and quality of production, facilitating planned investments.
