George R. R. Martin şi-a deschis o librărie, lângă cinematograful său din Santa Fe

George R. R. Martin Inaugurates New Bookstore in Santa Fe
George R. R. Martin has recently launched a bookstore in Santa Fe, New Mexico, although it currently does not feature the highly anticipated novel „The Winds of Winter,” the sixth installment in his epic fantasy series „A Song of Ice and Fire,” as reported by The Guardian.
A New Chapter: Beastly Books
The acclaimed author, who acquired the Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe back in 2013, has now opened „Beastly Books” right next door. The store’s name pays homage to what Martin describes as Cocteau’s most famous film, „Beauty and the Beast,” as well as a certain television show he worked on during the 1980s that shares the same title.
From Screen to Shelf
Martin explained that the idea for the bookstore emerged after hosting numerous discussions and book-signing events at the cinema featuring „dozens of incredible, award-winning authors and bestsellers.”
„We had so many signed copies that the lobby of Jean Cocteau was simply too small to display all these wonderful books,” Martin shared on his blog. „Considering this, we decided to open our own bookstore right next to the cinema. Stop by and visit us the next time you’re in the ‘Enchanted Realm.’ Beastly Books. Hear our roar!” he added.
A Treasure Trove of Signed Editions
„Beastly Books” will also offer a vast selection of signed copies of Martin’s works, as he has promised.
The Wait for „The Winds of Winter”
However, the bookstore will not be selling „The Winds of Winter” just yet. This much-anticipated sixth book in the „A Song of Ice and Fire” series, which inspired the hit TV show „Game of Thrones,” is still in the works. Martin has assured fans that the book will be completed by next summer, coinciding with his visit to New Zealand for the „WorldCon” science fiction convention.
A Trend Among Authors
Martin is not alone in his venture into the world of bookselling. Notable authors like Ann Patchett opened „Parnassus Books” in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2011, while Judy Blume established a small nonprofit bookstore in Key West, Florida, in 2016. Additionally, Louise Erdrich runs „Birchbark Books” in Minneapolis, showcasing a growing trend of authors taking their literary passions into the retail space.
