The draw for the Beijing event, the final Premier Mandatory tournament of the year, took place on Friday. Halep is seeded fifth and will face a player who has come through the qualifying rounds in her first match. Should she progress, the Romanian star could meet either Ekaterina Alexandrova (ranked 39th) or another qualifier in the second round.
Recent Performance and Injury Update
This week, Halep also participated in the Wuhan tournament but had to retire in the round of 16 due to a back injury sustained during her match against Elena Rybakina, with the score at 4-5 in the first set.
