PSD’s Commitment to Settle Electoral Debts

Marcel Ciolacu, the interim president of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), has assured that the party will fulfill all financial obligations incurred during the presidential election campaign. He emphasized that these debts are not concealed and will be publicly available once all necessary documents are submitted to the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP).

Transparency in Financial Matters

During a press conference following a National Executive Committee meeting, Ciolacu stated, „The party’s financial situation is quite stable. It is common for political parties to have debts after an electoral campaign. PSD is committed to settling all its obligations. The exact amount will be disclosed when we file the documents with the AEP for the release of funds.”

Clarification on Debt Amounts

When questioned about a rumored debt of €15 million, Ciolacu refrained from confirming this figure. „I haven’t calculated the exact conversion from lei to euros, but I can assure you that there are no hidden amounts. The documentation regarding the total will be submitted to the AEP to initiate the necessary procedures,” he added.

Expenditure Queries Addressed

In response to inquiries about whether expenses included costs related to Viorica Dăncilă’s campaign trip to Iași, Ciolacu remarked, „I doubt that the AEP reimburses such expenses. However, if we were to review the entire party’s accounting, it would take a considerable amount of time, perhaps 24 to 48 hours.”

Defending Party Activities

Ciolacu expressed a desire to avoid trivializing the party’s operations, stating, „I would like to see other parties disclose their expenditures as well, such as helicopter rentals, duration, and destinations. The Social Democratic Party has faced its share of consequences for past mistakes, and we are prepared to address them,” he concluded.
